The online application and all application components must be received by Dec. 15 to be considered for funding for September admission.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring their application is complete and all documents are received by the deadline.

Application components

  • Two academic references: referees will receive an email invitation to complete an online reference once the applicant submits the application form
  • Two sets of official transcripts in sealed envelopes from all post-secondary institutions attended. Transcripts must be mailed to:

Components to be uploaded to the Student Centre after submitting the online application:

  • Writing sample (such as a recent research paper or chapter from MA thesis)
  • Greek & Roman Studies: current curriculum vitae listing all awards, distinctions and any academic publications
  • Religious Studies: proposal for study – maximum two pages. Use SSHRC guidelines for the outline of your proposal, including the research question, context, objectives, methodology, and (for PhD applicants) the contribution to the advancement of knowledge. Comment on any relevant language study.

What is the application deadline?

Complete applications (including references letters, transcripts, test scores and all other supporting documents) are due by Dec. 15 in order to be considered for Departmental funding.

How do I upload the supporting documents to my application?

After you submit your online application, you will receive an email with your UCID number and instructions on how to access your Student Centre to upload your supporting documents.

Do I need to submit TOEFL/IELTS test scores with my application?

Proof of English language proficiency in the form of TOEFL/IELTS test scores is required when the applicant attended an institution where the language of instruction was not English. Please arrange to have test scores mailed to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Do I need to submit GRE test scores with my application?

The Department of Classics & Religion does not require applicants to sit the GRE exam.

Can the application fee be waived?

No, the application fee is set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and covers the administrative costs of processing your application. Applications with unpaid fees will not be processed.

What funding opportunities are available?

Please see our Funding page for details. Both domestic and international applicants will be considered for funding so long as their complete application has been received by Dec. 15.

My referee is having problems with the reference form, what should I tell them?

Please have referees contact the Graduate Program Administrator directly for assistance.

What resources are available for international students?
